April 1, 2004 Spring gets a little closer each day, and soon we'll all be proudly cruising the streets in our newly polished rides! Meanwhile, life and meetings go on! Our meeting was held at the Comfort Inn on Thursday, April 1 -- only a bad coincidence, I'm sure. We discussed a starting date for our Friday night show 'n shines, and settled on Friday 21 May for the first night. We decided to start at 6:00 PM for now, just to take advantage of daylight. It will be nice to see all our cars lined up again. The results of last months email polls were discussed. Black is the preferred colour for jackets, by a large margin. Most people want to stick with T-shirts, again by a large margin. Plaques won out over trophies (8 vs. 4), and it became obvious from the poll results that the destination for Spring Breakout should be decided by those who wish to go, so we did not close any doors on that. Peter came up with a good compromise on the plaque issue. The objection all along has been cost, but we can probably stay within budget by having a plaque for first place in each category, and trophies for second and third place. Dean Brennan is going to check in to some styles and prices, so we can firm this up. Last year, we had discussed inviting motorcycles in to Carfest, but did not have the time to proceed with the idea. We decided that we will include a "display only" category for bikes. Mike Kraynyk volunteered to get the word around, and organize the display. For many years, the club has hung pictures of member's cars in KFC. I think we mentioned in a previous newsletter, that the franchisor will no longer allow this. As a result, we haven't had a home for our pictures. Piston Ring has agreed to hang them on their wall, so now when you are out there buying parts for the pride and joy, you and everyone else can see them! Mike Godding arrived just in time to let us know that he and Naomi have tentatively set April 18 as the date for our next lunch. Details TBA. That's it for this time. I have to get out to the shop. As we have the Christmas party coming up, we have decided to CANCEL the regular meeting for December. I am enclosing a picture from the parade. We had 3 entries: Earl and Vicki's Dakota, Ron and Joan's AMX, and our own Cobra II. We went back to Naomi and Mike's for pizza later, and had a great time. A big Thank You to Naomi (and, in absentia Mike), who got stuck in beautiful downtown Sioux Lookout! Think about the Christmas Party, which is fast approaching (Saturday, December 18). PLEASE email me if you are coming, and if you are bringing a spouse or guest, as I will have to let the hotel know a rough head count. We hope to see everyone come out for a good time. Regards, Rick
